Cinema Thursday #1 – Condit Dam & the White Salmon

Today is the first of (hopefully) many weekly posts of a video that I have found interesting, or informative, or just plain humorous.

Last month the Condit Dam in Washington was breached; the start of a terrific plan to remove the entire dam and rehabilitate the White Salmon River.  Biologists expect the endangered white salmon population to double in this river.

It is very encouraging to me to see PacifiCorp carefully removing the dam in a way that will benefit its surrounding environment.  Also, it’s encouraging that they will be restoring the area, not just pulling out.

Chickens Again!

You remember the pullet in my post about the chicks?  Well, that pullet has grown substantially.  From this:

A happy, sleepy, 15-day-old pullet.

To this:

This picture was taken on Oct. 3. He's even bigger now!

And if you can’t already tell, it is not a pullet.  That’s right folks, the hatchery gave us an extra  rooster!  (At least it’s a breed I wanted.)  Chunky is my sweet boy.

I’ll try to get some new pictures of him.  They turned 3 months old on the 27th.  They sound so grown up, clucking instead of peeping.

Group shot! (Chunky is by the waterer.)

Giveaway: The Joy of Keeping A Root Cellar

Heather at Mountain Home Quilts is giving away Jennifer Megyesi’s book, The Joy of Keeping A Root Cellar.  It looks like a great book, so good, in fact, that she could only come up with one con for it!

Keeping a root cellar is a huge part of self-sufficiency which I hope to try next year.  Meanwhile, research!

This giveaway is now closed.
